Perhaps the closest thing to a 'perfect' venue Rochester has, Sticky Lips Juke Joint has been hugely successful in a small amount of time and has rocketed to the top of my list for best live music venues in this city.
The first night we played at the Juke Joint, there was a 2 hr line to get in the door. The place is always packed and hopping. Their BBQ is legendary around here, and the stage is excellent. Staffed by a professional sound engineer, they have a full stage, lighting, and PA.
They pay by guaranty, drink tickets, and BBQ. If they like you, expect to be called back...a lot. In fact, our band has played there every month since they've been in business, and we have at least 5 more dates lined up for the rest of 2012.
I really don't have anything negative to say about the venue, so it gets 5 stars.

I've played here 3 times with a rock/funk band and it's been a uniformly excellent venue. Huge stage, full sound, the food/beer selection is great. The management is very friendly and takes great care of the bands. I've been paid $50/man guarantee for performances with a larger group (6-7 people) plus food and 2 drinks. No backline provided except for full PA and sound. Sometime the sound takes a while getting setup, but a late start seems to be acceptable. Highly recommended for players and listeners!
