If you're a cover band and friends with the owner, and it's the summer time, you might have a shot at making decent money and playing for a decent crowd.

This venue is quite possibly the worst live music venue in Rochester. We played there just twice before we realized our mistake. Here's a brief explanation of our encounter:

- It was winter and the place was so cold it felt like they didn't have the heat on.
- There was no effort made on behalf of the venue to promote the show.
- The food is atrocious...taken from a can and half-heated at best.
- The deal for the band was terrible. The owner felt he was doing us a favor by having us play and treated us like secondhand citizens.
- The sound engineer had no idea how to work with a group like us (our specific instrumentation), and because of the young age of our band, falsely assumed we were amateurs and incapable of comprehending the complexities of sound reinforcement.

This venue is an example of what's currently wrong with music venues. Run by owners who know nothing about live music or what appeals to the audience, they book bands strictly for profit. In other words, cover bands. If you're not a cover band willing to play Motley Crue songs to the drunken masses, don't bother with this venue.

So many live music venues are disappearing in favor of a DJ because of lack of ability at the management level to understand what a live music venue is all about. Nola's BBQ is sadly one of them.

Oh, and as a former resident of New Orleans, I am sickened by their Mardi Gras themes and menu selections that claim to have anything to do with the amazing social and culinary culture of that great city. They have more in common with the drunken masses of tourists on Bourbon Street than with the music and culture of New Orleans.

Bad venue, bad sound, bad pay, horrible food, ignorant owner. Save your time and invest in other venues that care about you and your music. See my other reviews for recommendations.
