Two stars because they are widely reported as having the best sound.
The good news is that not only do they sound good, but they do a fair amount of advertising. The bad news is that they charge the band for it.
Touring acts large enough to write and negotiate good contracts reportedly do okay here.
Locals are reportedly charged the highest fees of any Portland venue to play here, to the point that their reputation for sticking it to bands is legendary among OTHER VENUE OWNERS, which is remarkable in this town.
In addition to several hundred to a thousand dollars in advertising, A friend's band that played there was charged a few hundred more bucks for hospitality - It was a case of PBR and a few bags of chips.
First of all, don't call it hospitality if you're going to charge for it. Second, $200? Third, PBR & Chips - When there's a restaurant upstairs?
The house recoups advertising money, which, since they advertise in major weeklies and have a strip-ad telephone pole flyer route, is expensive.
Locals, beware, and read your contract - if they give you one - carefully.
