Positives: There is a Steinway Grand there that is in decent shape, sometimes in better tune than others. Musically, anything goes, for the most part. The ambience, for some, is pleasant, and the food and wine options are appealing to people who come (and can afford). Their backline is decent compared to most clubs of similar ilk.
Negatives: The room does not sound great. I recently played there, had over 25 people there and barely made enough to cover my expenses. You get a percentage of cover that varies with how many people you bring. Also, they INSIST on a set of an hour and 45 minutes, which is very hard to do. My band did not adhere to this and we were yelled at by the manager. little to no built-in crowd.

Have played at Somethin' countless times as both a leader and as a sideman.
It's a great sounding room. Nice Steinway grand piano, Gretsch drums, decent Ampeg bass amp. The stage is large enough to easily accommodate an 18 piece big band.
The club really seats around 40, no matter what their website says, and numbers vary sometimes on the same page. They'll book almost anyone without listening to them first. Usually 2 or 3 sets a night but on weekends there are sometimes 4.
The owner, Steve, is a musician and you can tell that he loves what he does. He has a few issues to contend with, though.
He often fudges the number of people who paid the cover charge if he thinks that he can take advantage of the musicians, or if he forgets to collect it by the end of the show. Also, while his English is limited, he's a very hospitable guy and he really appreciates those that play at his club. Sometimes if the timing is right, he'll sit in himself (he's a great trumpet player and a decent bassist and drummer).
I don't play there much as a leader anymore because I was losing too much money. As a sideman, if the leader contributes a little bit out of pocket, it's a pretty okay place to play.
