Reviews from musicians

10-06-2011
My experience seems to be better than the other review. Mostly because I was just a musician and my band leader did the whole business aspect.
I did hear there was some kind of hassle once he and the promoter got together.
But playing the gig (not expecting to get paid) I found it rather enjoyable. We used our own equipment. Sound was pretty good.
The general atmosphere was pretty good.
Can't really comment on the business aspect.

Very eclectic programming. I played one set with a salsa band, and we heard sets by a string quartet and an ironic '80s band. Good sized hipster-y crowd, with excellent sound.
I was paid by the band leader, and the money was pretty good. So I thought, why not get a gig there myself? I talked to the booking person and got her info.
However, when I corresponded with her, although she was happy to have us play there, it became clear that the terms of working there were unacceptable (for me anyway). They wouldn't even pay us a cent until like 15 people came expressly for the band... which is not likely to happen. After that it would just be a percentage of door. So we'd likely be playing to a large crowd in a fairly posh place, which does charge a cover, and earn 0 dollars. Not cool. Hence the low rating.
