I played at the Ballroom with someone else's band, so I don't know about the payment and booking situation. But in terms of set up and sound, this is a great venue. We had a great gig, highlighted with a backstage appearance by Courtney Love. If you get a chance to play this room, I say take it.

this is one of those special places to play, and i do love it there. the people working there are super nice and have been there forever. i'd say they treat you pretty fair, and shows there can be a blast. one criticism i'd give is the green room. there's no reason why they couldn't clean up that green room and bathroom and make it nicer for the bands. maybe they are worried it would just be trashed or something, but it would be worth the upkeep. there's nothing like being on tour and showing up to a super nice clean green room, where you can feel relaxed. bowery presents books shows at so many venues in nyc, i would think they could afford to shell out a little extra to make it more welcoming for musicians.
