This club is interesting. It was important in the '40s and the beginning of bebop (more), closed in the 1970s and reopened in the 2000s.
When I played here with a big band, the club was entirely deserted except for maybe one audience member. In the middle of the first set, suddenly about 50 tourists trouped in and filled up the place. Later, they left the same way they came in, all at once. I believe they were on some kind of "Harlem Jazz Tour".
Overall, the gig was nothing special but it payed all right for a big band. The tourist thing was weird but fun, and it was fantastic to play in the same place that Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Kenny Clarke, Miles Davis etc. played.
